We learned this week of the death of one of Deep Springs’ most prolific authors. Park Honan DS’46 died on September 27 in Leeds, England, where he had lived and worked for over 40 years. Park was a professor of American and English Literature at the University of Leeds and authored five major biographies of English literary figures. The New York Times book section published a posthumous acknowledgment of Mr. Honan’s career and contributions to the field.
In an essay from 1964, Park wrote of his alma mater, “Deep Springs means to discourage any passive attitude toward life, by which responsibility is allowed to go by default to those who always stand ready to seize it unworthily.”
