The University of Utah Press will publish next month the long awaited history of Deep Springs College by historian Dr. L. Jackson Newell DS’56, former President (1995-2004) and Trustee (1987-1994) of Deep Springs. The book, titled The Electric Edge of Academe: The Saga of Lucien L. Nunn and Deep Springs College chronicles L.L. Nunn’s background in the American west and his establishment of Deep Springs as the final achievement of his educational pursuits in the early twentieth century. Having assembled the story during a decade of archival research with assistance from his wife Linda, Jack examines in great detail the successes and trials of the college, the Student Body, and the faculty and staff, chronicling the story of this experimental educational endeavor over nine decades.

Jack is Professor Emeritus of Educational Leadership at the University of Utah, where he also served as dean of liberal education for sixteen years.
