Deep Springs College is accredited to grant Associate’s of Arts degrees and to grant academic credit that can be transferred to another institution. Many students opt to transfer their credit to a four-year institution where they can finish a Bachelor’s Degree. This usually requires 2 to 3 years of additional coursework, depending on the institution and major program. In recent years, Deep Springs graduates have most commonly finished their degrees at Yale, Brown, Stanford, UC Berkeley, University of Chicago and other well regarded universities and colleges.
Some students choose not to immediately attend another college, preferring to travel, work or volunteer for a year or two. Over 95% complete a Bachelor’s and more than half of alumni go on to receive graduate and terminal degrees as well.
Deep Springs’ ethos of training students for a ‘life of service’ is engendered in myriad ways. Common fields of endeavor among DS alumni are: law, journalism, medicine, teaching, scientific research, university teaching, computer engineering, non-profit administration, and business entrepreneurship. Recent alumni also increasingly pursue agriculture, ecology and the arts.
